02AI recipe import
Yumly AI can import recipes automatically using AI. AI import is a Premium feature.
Premium AI import methods:
Camera: scan a recipe from a cookbook page
Photos: import existing photos from your library
PDF: select any PDF and AI extracts the recipe
URL: paste any recipe link and AI extracts the structured recipe
Auto cover photo lookup when the imported recipe has no photo
Adding recipes manually is always free — tap Add Manually to create a recipe yourself.
The AI reads the source, identifies the title, ingredients, steps, timings, and servings, then creates a new recipe ready to edit. Your Preferred Meals (in Settings) bias how recipes are interpreted. Daily limits apply to keep the service fair.
03Import from URL
URL import is a Premium feature. Paste any recipe website URL and Yumly AI will fetch and parse the page automatically.
Most popular cooking sites are supported. The importer reads structured recipe data and creates a new recipe with the title, ingredients, steps, and image. The Preferred Meals row at the top of the screen shows which meal styles the AI will favor when interpreting the recipe — tap it to change them without leaving the import flow.
If a site doesn't import cleanly, you can always edit the recipe afterward. Camera, photo, and PDF scanning are also Premium AI import methods — use whichever source is most convenient.
04Backup & Restore
Premium users can back up the entire cookbook to iCloud Drive.
What's included: all recipes, ingredients, steps, media, tags, labels, and settings — stored as a ZIP archive in your private iCloud space.
Auto Backup: enable to back up automatically after recipe or settings changes. Manual backups are available anytime from Settings → Backup & Restore.
Wi-Fi only: when auto-backup is on for iCloud, a Wi-Fi only toggle appears. Enabled by default to avoid using cellular data for uploads.
Restoring replaces the current cookbook entirely. Make sure to back up before restoring.
05App Lock
Premium users can protect the app with biometrics or a 4-digit PIN.
Options:
Face ID or Touch ID — unlock instantly with biometrics
PIN — fallback for when biometrics are unavailable
Both — for maximum security
The app locks automatically when you put it in the background. Disabling App Lock removes all stored authentication state.

Yumly AI supports 25 languages. The app automatically uses your iOS language but you can override it from Settings → Language.
Supported languages include English, Czech, Slovak, Polish, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Hungarian, Swedish, Finnish, Icelandic, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, and Greek.
UI strings switch instantly. Recipe content stays in whatever language you typed it in.
08Premium subscription
Premium unlocks the rest of Yumly AI with an auto-renewing subscription. Choose the plan that fits you:
Premium Monthly — €3.99 / month
Premium Yearly — €29.99 / year (saves about 37% vs monthly)
What's free for everyone: Manual recipe entry, search, filters, categories, labels, and tags. Shopping list and Cooking Mode.
What Premium unlocks: AI Recipe Import — scan recipes from Camera, Photos, and PDF — plus AI Recipe Generation, URL import, auto-find cover photos, iCloud backup with auto-backup, App Lock, recipe sharing between devices.
Billing is handled entirely by Apple — Yumly AI never sees or stores your payment details. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can switch between Monthly and Yearly any time from iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, or from the in-app Manage Subscription button. On a new device, tap Restore Purchases on the paywall.

Yumly AI can send your in-app shopping list straight into a real grocery store's online cart. It's free and currently in beta.

We're adding more stores over time. Each store we add to the list is one Yumly AI can connect to, so the list of supported shops will keep growing — if your store isn't here yet, check back after an update.
Connecting a store (signing in):
Open the Shopping tab and tap the cart button, or go to Settings → Grocery Connections.
Pick your store from the list and tap Connect.
A secure browser window opens on the store's own sign-in page. Log in with your existing store account (or create one on the store's site).
Approve access, and the window closes automatically back to Yumly AI — your store now shows as connected.
You sign in directly with the store, so Yumly AI never sees your password. Your store login is kept only on your device, and you can disconnect any store anytime from Settings → Grocery Connections.
Filling the cart (find the product, add it, shop later):
From your shopping list, start sending items to the connected store.
For each ingredient, Yumly AI searches the store and shows matching products — so you can pick the right one and see its price before adding.
Set the quantity and confirm. Nothing is ever added to your cart without your confirmation — you stay in control of every item.
Skip anything you don't need from that store and keep the rest on your list.
When you're done, the items are waiting in your cart on the store. You can add the rest of your shopping there and finish checkout later, whenever you're ready.
Prices, availability, delivery and payment all stay with the store — you complete the order on its own site or app, where final prices and stock are confirmed.
10Grocery connections: common issues
This feature is in beta. If something doesn't work as expected, these tips usually help:
My store isn't in the list. We only show stores Yumly AI can currently connect to. We're adding more over time — update the app and check Settings → Grocery Connections again later.
Sign-in didn't complete. The secure window may have closed early or your session timed out. Tap Connect again and sign in fully. Make sure your store login works on the store's own website or app first.
It says I'm not connected, or stopped working. Store sign-ins can expire. Open Settings → Grocery Connections, disconnect the store, then connect again.
I can't find the right product. Try a simpler search term (for example "flour" instead of "type 00 bread flour"). Some items may not be sold by that store — skip them and add them on the store's site directly.
The quantity or pack size doesn't match. Pick the closest product and adjust the amount; you can fine-tune quantities in the store's own cart before checkout.
Prices or availability look off. What you see comes from the store live, but the final price and stock are always confirmed at the store's checkout — that's where the real order is placed.
I want to remove a store / my data. Disconnect anytime from Settings → Grocery Connections. Your store login is stored only on your device and never on our side.

Is AI recipe scanning free?
AI recipe scanning is a Premium feature. Scanning with the camera, importing photos from your library, importing a PDF, and URL import all use AI and are part of Premium — along with auto cover photo lookup, AI meal suggestions, iCloud backup, App Lock and recipe sharing. The app is free to download, and the shopping list, Cooking Mode, manual recipe entry, search and organization are all free. Daily fair-use limits apply to AI features to keep the service sustainable.
How does Yumly AI handle my data?
No account is required and your cookbook lives on your device — recipes, photos, categories and settings stay in a local database, with no analytics, no ads and no tracking. When you choose an AI feature, that single request is processed over a secure connection just to read the recipe; your content is never stored on our side and never used to train AI models.
Premium iCloud backups are stored in your own private iCloud Drive — we have no access.
Does it work offline?
Your recipe library lives on your device, so browsing, searching, filtering, scaling servings, editing and exporting all work without a connection. The AI features — photo and PDF scan, URL import, meal suggestions and cover photo search — use a secure connection when you choose to use them.
Is the shopping list free?
Yes — the shopping list and Cooking Mode are both part of the free tier. One tap adds a recipe's ingredients to the list (or just the ones you pick), every item remembers which recipe it came from, you check things off as you shop, add your own items, and share the list as plain text. Like the rest of your cookbook, it works completely offline.
Can I send my shopping list to a grocery store?
Yes — grocery store integration is a free feature, currently in beta. From the Shopping tab you tap the cart button, and for each ingredient you pick the matching product from the store's search, set the quantity and confirm — nothing is added without your confirmation. You sign in to your own store account in a secure browser window, so the app never sees your password, and you finish checkout on the store's own site or app, where prices, availability and payment stay. Can I share recipes without the internet?
Yes. Yumly AI uses Apple's Multipeer Connectivity to transfer recipes directly between nearby iPhones and iPads over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, no internet required. You can also export a recipe as plain text, a .mcb Yumly file, or a full archive with all images included.
What happens if I cancel Premium?
Premium stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. After that the app reverts to the free tier — every recipe, every photo, every setting stays exactly as it was, only the PRO-only features (AI recipe scanning from camera, photos and PDF, URL import, AI meal suggestions, iCloud backup, App Lock, sharing) are locked again until you resubscribe.
How do I request a refund?
All purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Yumly AI purchase, and follow the steps. We have no visibility into App Store purchases and cannot issue refunds ourselves.
